A Project by Gabe Ali.Lead Product Designer @ Respondsive
As creators we try to latch on to a core inspiration with each project.
In the case of Optimistic Traveler we didn’t have to look to far. The co-founders Milan and Muammer’s vision to help the dreams of one million underserved individuals from across the globe come true was truly inspiring.
Project Details.
The idea behind Optimistic Traveler (OT) is simple, connect dreamers with dream makers from across the world.
Who are the dreamers?
Individuals from across the world seeking help with small, but important, life altering causes.
“My dream is to study tourism.”
Mwamize from Zanzibar, Tanzania
“My dream is to get my home’s roof that is full of holes repaired.”
Mama Yen from Zimbabwe, Harare
“My dream is travel to France and perform a civil service.”
Siya from Cape town, South Africa
Who are the dream makers?
Everyday people who are open to committing time and in some cases small amounts of money to help a person in need.
A personal connection.
Kickstarter and similar platforms serve a need where a large number of people connect online to get behind a cause. OT on the other hand is focused on causes where it’s always a one to one relationship, one dream maker per dreamer.
Our role centered around creating the end-to-end product design and working closely with the development team to ensure delivery.
More specifically, we were responsible for the app:
High-level User Journeys.

Outcomes and Key Decisions.

A Responsive, Browser App.
One of the first important decisions that needed to be made was which platform(s) was the MVP going to launch across: native, browser or both?
We took the following into consideration:
Combined with the nature of the technical resources available for this project we decided to go with a responsive, browser app as the direction for the MVP.
The Dream Feed.
The home view of the app, the dream feed curates dreams from across the community.
